C&C’s Competitive Edge
The Price. Dynamism and knowledge of the business. Having the connections and the facilities to deliver the right product at the right price.
In 2016, Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TSX: PBH), a leading producer, marketer and distributor of branded speciality food products, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets and business undertakings of Montreal based C&C Packing and its affiliate, Premier Meat Packers (2009) Inc. (collectively “C&C”).
“We are very excited to be joining Premium Brands. Its entrepreneurial culture and focus on premium and differentiated products is an ideal fit for our business,” said Mr. Ronnie Cons, C&C’s CEO. “I have no doubt that there will be significant top and bottom line growth opportunities created through the combination of our businesses,” added Mr. Cons.
“Our family is very proud of where our business is today. Our people, culture and operations are second to none,” said Mr. Stanley Cons, C&C’s Founder. “I am as excited today about what lies ahead for our business as I was when I founded C&C back in 1974,” added Mr. Cons.
“It was very important to us to find a partner that could not only help us elevate our business to the next level but one that also shares our values,” said Mr. Michael Cons, C&C’s COO. “Our family and I have no doubts that Premium Brands is that partner,” added Mr. Cons.
C&C’s history is one of continuous growth and improvement. This family owned business expanded from a local meat purveyor in Troy, New York to become one of the industry’s fastest growing players with state-of-the-art facilities in Montreal, Quebec and regional sales offices throughout Canada.
C&C was established in 1974 by Stanley Cons working with a group of family members and associates to deliver product in and around Troy. They quickly built a reputation for quality meats, reliable deliveries and competitive pricing. These fundamentals helped C&C to grow their customer base beyond the Troy area. The small warehouse in Troy was soon outgrown.
C&C custom designed their own facilities in the Montreal area, one of the world’s great food cities. The steady growth in business required several enlargements to the Montreal plant and plans are now in the works for further expansion.
The second generation of the Cons family has been working in the business for over a decade, and during that time their growth has continued to accelerate. The company now serves all segments of the wholesale market and is able to source a wider selection of products worldwide.
C&C has managed its unrelenting growth by the careful selection of qualified employees and identifying key partners that are able to contribute to the company’s success.
C&C has grown by knowing their product, insisting on quality workmanship and understanding the customer’s requirements. This steady focus on what makes their product a winner is expected to keep the company growing.
Knowing the business keeps C&C ahead
C&C leads this commodity business by being dynamic and energetic, but even more importantly, by staying in the know. Knowing the product, knowing where to source it, knowing how to handle it, knowing the customer’s needs.
C&C knows where to source container loads of the finest quality beef, pork, lamb, veal and poultry directly from slaughterhouses around the globe. Wherever quality is offered at a competitive price, C&C is there to make an offer.
During transport, their inspectors know what to look for to ensure temperature and propriety standards are maintained during transfer to C&C’s state-of-the-art processing and warehousing facility in Montreal.
From purchase through to processing, packaging and sale, C&C’s database tracks millions of units of produce to ensure wholesome goodness at the best possible price.
